Woman and child reappear

Three of my friends and I were out late at night driving on the outskirts of our town. I was in the passinger seat with my friend driving beside me. One of my other friends was asleep in the back seat while the other was just spacing out.
The road we were on runs right beside a river where a young woman and her small daughter drove off the road and into the water and passed away just a year or so before this night.
Suddenly, about 30 feet above us, hovering were the foggy figures of two people. I didn't see their faces because the driver screamed and I screamed and we woke up the other two and sped around.
I wish now that I had not been as creeped out as I was because I would have loved to find out if they were the woman and the child. Every once in a while, we will drive back out there to see if anything happens again, but it hasn't yet.
